So, yeah…still madly in love with Four/Tobias of the post-apocalyptic Chicago world of Divergent <3

Yes, I know the character is only supposed to be 18, but Theo James is only 2 years younger than me (12/16/84…I’ve done some research lol…and yes, technically it’s 2 years and ten days, but whatever), so I don’t feel like a dirty old lady – or a cougar; I’m way too young to be a cougar, btw!

But, uh…yeah…I adore both the character as written by Roth <well-developed and believable: cockiness of an 18 year old with the underlying naivete of an inexperienced young man>, and as performed, nuanced and realistic, by Theo…but moreso with the live-action Four, er, Tobias…Theo!

Alright, alright!  I confess: it’s more of a major crush on Theo James in the role of Four (<3), but I think I’ll take Theo in anything.  I can’t think of anyone who would play the role as well, but I’m sure anyone would bring something different to the role.  I just don’t think it would be the same.  Well, obviously it wouldn’t be the same, right?  A different actor plays a character differently, I guess, unless the director is very heavy-handed…but I wouldn’t know about that, as I’ve yet to land my breakout role!

Divergent Review

Divergent, Veronica Roth (film)

I actually readily admit that I’m a sucker for a good YA book, at least, a book or a series set in an interesting, adventuresome premise…or funny ones…or just anything that’s not terribly, horribly, sad and sappy; I admit to enjoying the film versions, as well.  Though I’ve never read The Fault In Our Stars, I saw the film opening weekend, with my equally intelligent sister, and we both adored it, but neither of us thinks she could handle the book because it is just too sad; I’m a Potterhead from way back in 2000, when I re­ad Sorcerer’s Stone, way back when I was a young adult (17). I attempted to read Twilight, but the writing was just so terrible that I couldn’t make myself…and I was an English major, so I had to read some frightful things!

That brings me to Divergent, which truly impressed me!  Li’l sis and I, again, decided to give it a shot because the troika is so popular.  We were not disappointed at all, but rather, totally pleased with the film!

Beatrice, a humble daughter of Abnegation leaders, longs to be in the Dauntless faction because they are brave in the exciting activities everyone else sees.  When given the opportunity to choose her own way, she’s faced with a dilemma that ultimately leads her the way of her heart…or is it?

Four, a trainer with her new faction, is mysterious, challenging, but kind, and she kinda likes him.  Will she discover Four’s secrets amid revelations of herself?

Theo James plays Four perfectly, showing just the right amount of nuance and emotion.  He is exactly whom I’d have cast for the role, and his chemistry with Shailene Woodley is definitely evident in their realistic weirdness/awkwardness around one another.  It feels real, despite the dystopian setting of post-revolutionary Chicago.  Ms. Woodley portrays Tris believably, giving her the dimension she has in the novel.

Both performances were so good at bringing the characters to life, I bought the book; and in fact, am, just this moment, preparing to purchase the film through FIOS TV, so I will have it forever and for always…and while I’m at it, I may re-watch  The Inbetweeners Movie on Netflix.  Clearly, I must feed my newly-formed Theo James habit, which I don’t feel guilty about because he’s actually my age, and not the kid he portrays!  Note to self: Downton Abbey.

  

Blogs may be more visually appealing in future, but right now, I have a movie to watch!
